Why Does My Club Need a Mobile App?

More and more consumers rely on their mobile devices for personal and business use.  The need for a club to have a mobile app is rapidly growing.  The biggest hurdle most clubs have to overcome is the cost.

Consider the following statistics regarding mobile device usage:

  • As of August 2017, there are over 3.5 billion unique mobile internet users. Source: Statista
  • Users spend on average 69% of their media time on smartphones. Source: comScore
  • Mobile devices will drive 80% of global internet usage.Source: Zenith
  • 50% of the time individuals spend on digital media is on mobile apps. Source: Comscore
  • About 91% of people in the US have a subscription to a cell phone data plan. (~285 million people)

If you want to interact with consumers in this day and age, you need to be visible on their mobile devices!  The best way to do this is to provide a mobile app that they can download and use on their device.

Consider some statistics about apps:

  • There are about 8 million apps in the Google Play store, 2.2 million in the Apple App Store. Source: Statista
  • The total number of mobile app downloads in 2017 was 197 billion . Source: Statista
  • The total number of iOS app downloads in 2016 was 25 billion. Source: App Annie
  • The total number of Android app downloads in 2016 was 90 billion. Source: App Annie
  • In real life people tend to use only a few on a daily basis. The average number of apps people use is 9 apps daily, and 30 apps monthly. Source: TechCrunch
  • Mobile websites get more visitors than native apps. But those people spend a lot less time on mobile websites than they do on apps. Source: comScore

A goal would be to have a mobile app that becomes one of those 9 apps that your members use on a daily basis.  Remember that these people already have an attachment to your club, and downloading and using an app to make their experience better and more convenient makes sense.
